A well-designed audio system is extremely vital for delivering clear communication and an engaging audience experience in auditorium environments. This project involved the design and installation of a focused wall-mounted audio solution using AUDAC WX802 speakers for the auditorium of Emirates Association for the Visually Impaired (EAVI), based in Muwaileh, Sharjah. EAVI is one of the primary organizations supporting blind and partially sighted individuals in the UAE.

The venue was used for speeches, functions, and public events, including programs involving visually impaired participants, where clear speech intelligibility was a key requirement.

The Challenge

Initial Requirement

Initially, we conducted a telephone discussion with the customer to understand the auditorium’s audio requirements and application needs. During the subsequent site visit, the customer requested the supply and installation of ceiling speakers based on the earlier discussion. Our team then conducted a detailed technical assessment to evaluate the acoustic requirements and the suitability of the proposed solution.

Site Condition

However, during the site inspection, it was identified that the venue had a ceiling height of approximately 8–9 meters. The venue was primarily used for speeches, functions, and programs involving visually impaired participants, where speech clarity and intelligibility were extremely important.

Technical Concern

Technically, ceiling speakers are not ideal for high-ceiling auditorium environments, as wide audio dispersion from elevated mounting positions can reduce vocal clarity at listener's level.

Technical Recommendation
The Solution

After conducting a detailed acoustic assessment, we recommended replacing the ceiling speaker concept with a focused wall-mounted audio solution. The recommendation was made after considering the auditorium size, seating arrangement, ceiling height, and application requirements.

The system included a strategically positioned side wall-mounted AUDAC WX802 ceiling speaker solution to provide clear and even sound coverage throughout the audience area. With an 8-inch low-frequency driver and 1-inch dome tweeter, the speaker can deliver clear vocals, balanced sound coverage, and excellent intelligibility throughout the auditorium.

A dedicated stage monitor speaker was also installed to ensure clear audio for speakers and performers on stage. This solution provided better speech clarity, controlled sound coverage, and improved overall audio performance for the auditorium.
